YEAR 5

Year 5 students have had a super active start to this last term of the year. They took part in Interschool Athletics during the first week and they competed against other Year 5 students from other schools in and around Shepparton. In the second week, they had their own school’s Sports Carnival and they participated enthusiastically in it. In addition to this, for the first three weeks, Abraham from Melbourne City Football Club came to our school to teach soccer skills to Years 4 and 5 students. He also focused on healthy nutrition, good sportsmanship skills, healthy lifestyles, team work and personal goal setting skills. All students loved these sessions and few lucky ones won wonderful prizes for their excellent effort while playing.

In English, students have been reading, analyzing and writing different types of poems. So far, they created their own acrostic, rhyming, diamante and shape poems. They studied about the use of figurative language like, similes, metaphors, idioms, alliterations etc. to make their writing more impressive. They have been doing grammar, reading and comprehension activities in class to strengthen their literacy skills.

We focused on Money and Financial Budgets in Mathematics where we also looked at pros and cons of using cash, debit cards and credit cards. They got chances to solve money problems and design their own financial plans according to the given budget.

During Art lessons, students are doing visual art activities along with practice for the end of year concert. In Science, students have been learning about Space and in ICT lessons, they have started to make their own Prezi/PowerPoint presentations about their chosen planet.

Weekly homework has begun from week two and students are supposed to complete all tasks by Friday. On Friday, they do weekly spelling test and their homework is checked as well. Please encourage children to complete all assigned tasks by Friday.

Thanks to all parents for attending parent teacher interviews this term and please do not hesitate to book an appointment if you missed it for some reason.
